Taxes and Dues in Japan
This site provides you a brief guide about Japanese taxes and dues imposed on individuals. They are rather complicated and very difficult for most people to understand. If you were a Japanese, you can easily ask for necessary explanations at the relevant bureaus. But a foreigner can not do so unless he/she is exceptionally good at Japanese. You must feel uneasy to be forced to pay taxes and dues, which you can not understand well.
I hope this site helps you to know better about the Japanese taxes and dues and to live in this country more relaxedly.

2024/February 17th | Yesterday was the first day of the period for the Japanese Income tax filing. I hear that a lot of people complain about the fund raising scandal of the ruling party, LDP at the venues of the tax filing all across Japan. However, from the point of me, such action is meaningless. Rather making the taxation procedures inefficient is ultimately unadvantageous for us ourselves. They should express their angry at the next election, instead, |
2023/December 23 | The Tokyo branch of Kempo Kyokai, the Social Health Insurance Association, announces that it will send the notices of the medical expenses in the mid or late January. The notices certificate the amount paid by the respective insurers during the designated period and help the insurers claim the deduction for medical expenses for income tax purpose. The Association annouonces it will send the notices much earlier than the previous years so that the notices can be more useful. Actually the notices were delivered too late as many people start the preparation for the tax return in late January or February. However, in order to accelerate the issuance schedule, the period of the scope is made one month shorter. Only the medical expenses paid in August 2023 and earlier shall be taken into account. It means the notices will become less useful as a material for the income tax return. I would like to suggest again that you utilize the Myna Portal. You can get the said data for the whole year by the mid February of the succeeding year on the Myna Portal. |
2023/October 14 | The Japanese national tax agency accerelates the Digital Transformation in the area of taxation.
